What is metabolic acidosis?
Metabolic acidosis means the body makes too much acid and there are many causes as to why it happens. In renal patients, toxicity and severe dehydration becomes prevalent because the kidneys are not removing excess acid from the body. The same can be caused by uncontrolled diabetes type 1. It can also occur when there is excessive sodium bicarbonate loss from the body or there’s an accumulation of lactic acid. Some symptoms may be fast breathing, confusion or feeling very tired. If left untreated, it can lead to shock or death. Seek medical help if you have symptoms of any disease that may cause metabolic acidosis.
